Questions and Principles
How can the body explore release and jazz and fuse them together?
As a choreographer I became very interested in the idea of fusing two contrasting styles together to create a new, intriguing piece of choreography. I decided to explore jazz as it being a style that would involve an exiting opportunity for me to explore. The second style I would be studying is release due to the challenge of investigating a style that is fresh to my mind and body. Overall I think the result in fusing these two style would create a different and unusual aesthetic.
Sub-Question 1: What are the technical differences between jazz and release and how can they integrate?
I chose this as my first question, primarily because of the vast possibilities of exploring the differences in each of their techniques. This sub-question would result in an engaging process and give me the opportunity to go into depths with my research.
Sub-Question 2: How can the dynamics of jazz combine with the dynamics of release?
This is my second sub-question because I think the process of exploring dynamics would be a huge challenge and I am confident that it would encourage me to step outside my comfort zone.
Sub-Question 3: How can the body explore the use of space within two different styles?
Choreographically, spatial pathways are very important to me and it can accentuate the effectiveness of a performance to a high standard therefore is why I have chosen this as my third sub-question. Moreover the spacing used within each of these styles show a lot of differences and I think during my choreographic process I could inco-operate the spacing to create a successfully structured performance.
